2024 - Year in Review

The numbers, the changes, and what's next (pricing changes!)

Happy New Year! I hope 2025 brings you focus and meaningful progress on things that matter.

2024 was quite a year for trydeepwork. I think you'll find some of these numbers interesting.

The Impact

35,755 hours of deep work!

Most impressive - someone crushed a 20-hour session (there was a way to push beyond 4 hours, and some of you used it!)

People did real deep work:

  • More users do 3+ hour sessions (up 12.8% from last year)
  • Average session length grew from 1.0 to 1.2 hours

What's Really Interesting

Night owls dominate: Peak productivity is at 10 PM

Monday momentum is real: 18% more sessions than other days

Fascinating shift in work patterns:

  • More people doing 2+ and 3+ hour sessions
  • Fewer doing 1-hour sessions
  • Clear progression in deep work capacity - take that, 25-minute timers!

Changelog

Multiple changes went in to make trydeepwork better:

  • Sessions are now saved on the backend, so fewer users lose their sessions due to tab reloads (finally!)
  • Complete profile system redesign
  • Improved analytics (check it out if you haven't!)
  • Dark mode for night sessions (still some rough edges, but it's pretty)
  • Major task manager overhaul
  • Typescript migration for better stability
  • Smarter challenge system (3 new types of challenges)
  • Steps toward intelligent task prioritization

Looking Back and Forward

What Went Well:

  • Deep Work Sessions: The numbers tell the story - more people doing 2+ and 3+ hour sessions

  • Task Prioritization: The new system helps, though there's room for improvement

  • Stability: Offline support and session persistence made the app more reliable

  • Dark Mode: Especially useful given most deep work happens at 10 PM

What Needs Work:

  • Goals System: While it tracks progress, it needs better daily planning integration

  • Challenges: Better badges, better community participation, and better challenges

  • Task Management: The prioritization system can get a lot smarter

  • Mobile app: It doesn't exist (yet).

Plan for 2025

I'm moving trydeepwork to a subscription model ($4.99/month or $39/year) starting January. If you're a lifetime user, nothing changes - you're grandfathered in.

Why the change? While lifetime deals were great for early supporters, they're not sustainable for continuous development and support. A subscription model is more balanced - you can pay less if you only need it occasionally ($4.99/month), or get more value with regular use. It helps me keep improving trydeepwork while ensuring the pricing reflects the value you get.

I will continue to fix the pressing issues each week, from fixing bugs to improving the experience and functionality. We're in it for the long haul after all.
